Khakra trees were plentiful in the plains of Plassey.  And Khakra was called Plas in the local language, hence the name Battle of Plass.   Mir Jafar, whom the Nawab believed in, became a traitor and at the beginning of the battle, the Nawab's army of 40,000 marched on the side of the British.  Due to this conspiracy, the war ended in half a day and Nawab Siraj Uddola was killed by Mir Jafar's son Miran.  After the war, Mir Jafar was appointed as the Nawab of Bengal.  He gave the British the manor of 'twenty four parganas'.  Thus, the Battle of Plassey marked the beginning of British rule in India.  The "East India Mint" was established in Calcutta and the rupee issued by the East India Company first came into existence on August 19, 1757.   Mir Jafar gave one crore rupees to the British and allowed tax free trade in Bengal.
