Igneous and sedimentary rocks are transformed into metamorphic rocks due to high temperature and extreme pressure. Such rocks are called 'metamorphic rocks'.

Examples: Clay turns into slate and limestone into marble.

Would love to know

What is 'fossil'? The remains of dead plants and insects buried in rock layers are called 'fossils'.

In some situations, one type of rock is metamorphosed into another in a cyclical manner. This process of transformation from one rock to another is called rock cycle.Liquid magma cools to solid igneous rock. These igneous rocks migrate in small pieces from one place to another to form the igneous rock.

Temperature and pressure cause this igneous and igneous rock to change into metamorphic rock. Due to extreme temperature and pressure, this metamorphic rock remelts and becomes liquid magma. This liquid magma cools again and turns into solid igneous rock.
